It was a night of food, fun and frivolity at the 27th annual Trivia Bee at Stockton Arena. About 300 tickets were sold for the event, sponsored by the San Joaquin Library & Literacy Foundation. Funds help support literacy programs within San Joaquin County. More than 24 adult teams and some 10 high school teams participated in this year’s event, whose theme was “California Dreamers — Builders, Entertainers & Entrepreneurs!”
The BEE-yond Our Gates team from University of the Pacific won in a second round of sudden death against Councilmember Christina Fugazi’s team with a total 84 points, with the correct answer to the question: “Businessman, politican and newspaper publisher William Randolph Hearst’s life story was part of the inspiration for the lead character in a movie produced, written, directed and starred in by Orson Welles. What is the name of this movie?” The answer, of course, was “Citizen Kane.”
Middle College High School won the high school competition.
